Music and the BART Train

When I am not working the "real" job or working on my photography or painting or running or the countless other things that enter our day to day routine. I go to concerts! As I write this it is early Saturday morning I am stuck on the BART train waiting for another train, its confusing. I do have good music playing in my ears. At the moment I am listening to Thirty Seconds to Mars, but I am going to write about The Avett Brothers.

I saw them last weekend. It was my fourth time and they never disappoint.  These two brothers from North Carolina have a way to bring us together in such a special way. They make us stomp our feet and raise our hands to the sky. 

I need music of any kind to bring calmness in to my life but it also allows me to capture moments like that above. Of Scott and Seth Avett singing about how it's in with the new and it's out with the old, well in comes the warm and out goes the cold, how it's the most predictable story told, it's in with the new and it's out with the old - Down with the Shine. 

Many musicians I listen to also artists themselves, they are photographers, painters, sculpturers and it's all fascinating to have inspiration not only from their music but what they create. 

The BART train has arrived!! So off home. Tomorrow night I have another show, Old Crow Medicine Show!

It has been a good last few days, getting the final images to be come silhouettes have been amazing.

Tomorrow marks the 50th. In a way, I am sad to see it all come to an end.

Day Forty -Eight - Greeting the Sun

I woke up this morning and greeted the sun, in search of this windmill. It was well worth it. I forgot the feeling of exploring, this morning was just that, I knew what I was going to shoot, but I also realized there was so much more to photograph as well.  This journey has definitely been just that. Realization.

It is just about over, I spent the day mostly finishing up last minute details. I still have a few pieces to begin, but that is what tomorrow is for. I have my 50th piece all planned but I am saving that one for Monday. 

With this short post, I say good night, I am planning on greeting the sun again tomorrow. 

Day Forty-Three - Then the Fog Cleared

It was raining this morning when I woke and went to work and tried to work (I work for a roofer) and then sometime around noon it started to clear, and clear some more and some more. Finally!!

These pictures are iPhone captured. I have yet to really look through the ones from mt camera. I have seen enough to know that I am so very happy! I am finally feeling the pressure ease.

This picture of city hall was taken out my window as I waited at the light. It helps to make the right exits so you do not travel the long way round. However, this picture makes up for the detour. 

I even managed to grow some more branches on my tree today. 

It looks like we are out of the fog here in Pacifica, so tomorrow once again I will venture out to a new place and let thing happen as they may! 

A 50/50 Adventure

Imagine you were given 50 6x6 boards and 50 days to create art. It wouldn't matter what medium you had choosen; photography, painting, metal or paper. You just need to have the inspiration and determination to complete them in the given time. Could you do it?


Coastal Wanderings, 50/50 2010



Recently, I had to ask myself if I could do it again. Could I? Could I create 50 photographs in the 50 days as I had done last year? Could I choose a theme that was as challenging as the last one? It appears I CAN and WILL! I was accepted into the third annual 50/50 show at Sanchez Art Center. Being one of 72 from the 117 entries, I feel honored at the opportunity to work on it again. Dewitt Chang, an artist and curator, from San Francisco was the juror. He, alone, selected the artists and I thank him, because once I had my theme in mind I really wanted to pursue it. As like last years, Coastal Wanderings, once I get my mind set on something, I rarely faulter from it.

Stairways - San Franciso Soul is my 50/50 and it has been a desire of mine for sometime to be able to photograph the many stairs we have in the city. You may ask why, being a Pacifican born and bred, that I would have chosen this; a while back I came across a book, called Stairways Walks in San Francisco by Adah Bakalinsky. She has written a book that maps out walks thoughout the city which highlights it amazing stairs. I can't remember why I purchased the book, I just knew one day I would have the chance to do this. I even located the author of the book and spoke to her the other day on the phone, she is such a sweet lady and is even eagar to see the final pieces. We may even plan a walk together. This is what the 50/50 is all about, finding something new about yourself, your art and even making some new friends along the way.

Beginning this past Monday the 13th and ending on August 1st, I will be wandering through San Francisco neighborhoods. So far it has been a challenge, I have been exposed to angry drivers, who chase you down and my poor lack of map reading, while walking about. But it is all an adventure and when I look through the camera and find something I didn't even know I was looking at, it is all worth

it.  I always like that I can surprise myself.  I also like that I will be seeing a side of San Francisco, most may not even know is there; including little beaches and water fountains. From time to time I will let you know how this adventure goes and on opening night, August 26th I hope all who are able will attend.
